So You’ve Been In a Car Accident

For More Information: www.accentonhealth.org

If you have been involved a “Fender Bender” type auto accident please don’t be misled by the minimal damage to your car. You need to know that living human tissue will react much differently than glass, plastic and metal and can be seriously damaged even a low impact speeds.

The accident may have went something like this….  You unexpectedly heard  screeching tires and the crunching sound of metal hitting metal. In the split second before you could brace yourself, you felt your car moving in an unintended direction.

Many times there is no visual damage to your car and it can be tempting to minimize your own injuries because your car looks relatively good with some small dings or scratches. What you may not know is that there are many published scientific studies that have proven time and again that occupants can be injured considerably more than what you’d expect from a dented fender or a broken taillight.

Most people first seek care from a hospital emergency room, some are even taken there by ambulance. If you visit the emergency room, it is likely that you will be given a clean bill of health because you don’t have any broken bones. People usually leave the ER after a few hours of waiting for a 5 minute discussion with the doctor with a prescription to reduce the muscle spasms caused by structural changes in your neck or lower back and a pain reliever and told to rest.

After what you’ve been through, you’ll need a health professional that truly understands soft tissue injuries, spinal biomechanics and rehabilitation strategies. When pain persists after several weeks and may even be getting worse many people become disgusted, frustrated, and perhaps even a bit depressed. This is where I can help.

Whether it was a little incident in the parking lot, or two cars attempting to occupy the same space in an intersection, you need people who know how to get injured tissues to heal and end you pain, people that know how to work with lawyers and deal with insurance companies.

If you’ve been in a car accident, give me a call. My staff and I have been through this many times with thousands of injured people just like you. Not only can we usually offer drug-free care, we can help put this behind you once and for all.

Some Common Questions

Q: Why do I have pain in my arms and hands?

A: Because the nerves to the arms and hands exit the spine through the injured area of the neck, numbness and tingling are common. Even lower back pain can result directly from the trauma, or as a reaction to the loss of proper spinal curves.

Q: Why did my headaches start more than a week after my accident?

A: Whether you’ve been in an accident, stressed at work, or over-exerted yourself in the garden, your body is constantly adapting to the environment. When your capacity to adapt is exhausted, symptoms can appear. This can take days, weeks, months or years to occur.

Q: Will I ever be normal again?

A: Many chiropractic patients report improved spinal function and a reduction of their symptoms. Those who delay seeking appropriate care often discover that scar tissue and long-standing spinal instability increases the recovery period.
